These past few months have felt overwhelming. Between managing the children’s needs and juggling an endless to-do list, it seems like the demands of daily life are relentless. Some mornings come way too early, especially after getting just three hours of sleep due to restless kids who refuse to settle down or who wake up at 2:00 AM and want to chat. It’s safe to say that I am tired—exhausted, in fact. If I am being truly honest, I nearly didn't sit down to write this. My lack of sleep this week began to take a toll by the end of the week, peaking on Thursday. Taking care of the housework and raising children seemed quite daunting. Throughout the day I would take frequent breaks and scroll on social media. By Thursday evening, I was emotional and bitter. I knew I needed rest and healing for my soul. By the way, scrolling endlessly on social media didn't do the trick. I was still exhausted, but most of all, feeling broken.
Exhaustion can present itself in countless ways, but some people experience it more intensely than others. Each day, we face the world, often feeling submerged in mundane tasks, parenting, ongoing health concerns, or the daily demands of our careers. This cycle can profoundly affect our mental and physical well-being.
Many of us seek quick escapes from this fatigue, like scrolling through social media like I did, binge-watching shows, or even using alcohol to dull our senses—whether it's a glass of wine or a few beers. While these distractions can provide temporary relief, they often lead to a cycle of dependency and a return to the same feelings of exhaustion.
What if I told you there’s a more fulfilling way to find rest?
The Promise of Rest
There are many verses and passages in the Bible that speak about exhaustion and finding rest. Once such verse, Matthew 11:28, offers a powerful promise: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." This scripture reminds us that God is our ultimate source of comfort and strength. Through these trying times, I’ve learned the importance of seeking rest in the Lord rather than turning towards temporary distractions.

Life can feel insurmountable, but reaching for God during these moments has been transformative. Rather than opting for quick fixes in social media or mindless TV shows, I have dedicated time to prayer and scripture meditation, which brings me genuine comfort.
Recognizing that the Lord sustains us amidst chaos is empowering. You don’t have to feel crushed by daily routines or overwhelmed by appointments and responsibilities. Instead, each task can be an opportunity to honor God (Colossians 3:17).
"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
Colossians 3:17 ESV
Changing Perspective
Imagine viewing your parenting and daily tasks as blessings instead of burdens. This mental shift has helped me tremendously. I now see chores, errands, and responsibilities as chances to appreciate the life God has given me. Whether it’s folding laundry or cooking dinner, I remind myself these actions are acts of service and moments for gratitude.
For example, when I make dinner, I think about how my family will enjoy the meal together. This reframing turns chores into meaningful rituals that foster connection. By embracing this mindset, I’ve found joy among the mundane. Does it always look like this for me? I can confidently assure you it doesn't. I struggle with shifting my mindset at times, too. I am not perfect. I am human, prone to sin just like anyone else. Through the Gospel and Jesus Christ we can find forgiveness and hope for when we are weak.
Finding Peace in the Chaos
Trusting in God can lead to a profound sense of peace, especially during exhausting times. Faith serves as an anchor, holding me steady when the waves of life feel turbulent. By presenting my worries to God, I feel liberated, knowing He carries my burdens for me.
There are certainly days when the challenges of motherhood feel heavy. In those moments, I’ve learned to pause, breathe deeply, and center myself in God’s presence. Rather than rushing to find a quick relief, I take time to pray or simply sit in silence with Him.
Seeking Fulfillment Beyond the Surface
Let’s be honest: the distractions we often choose, like social media scrolling, may provide brief entertainment, but they leave us feeling empty. For instance, watching a compelling TV series may distract me for a couple of hours, but it doesn't address the deeper need for rest and peace.
When I find myself reaching for distractions, I find myself asking these questions: What am I truly seeking? Is it comfort, understanding, or connection? Nurturing my relationship with God has shown me that real fulfillment comes through His unwavering love and support, not through fleeting distractions.
The Impact of Exhaustion
Exhaustion can severely impact our mental and physical health. When drained, I notice my patience dwindles, my mood shifts, and my relationships with loved ones suffer. This week in particular I noticed that my body was starting to hurt towards the end of the week. I had a constant pounding headache that wouldn't go away and I couldn't eat well because of my exhaustion.
During particularly exhausting times, reaching out to others may feel daunting but is essential. Sharing feelings and challenges with friends, family, or a faith community provides necessary support. While Jesus Christ sustains me, sometimes a human connection adds layers of renewal and comfort.
Practical Ways to Cultivate Rest in God
Incorporating faith into daily life requires intention and practice. Here are some effective ways that have helped me nurture rest in God amidst chaos:
Daily Prayer and Worship: Setting aside just a few minutes each day allows me to connect with God, fostering peace and reflection.
Scripture Reading: Engaging with Bible verses, especially those that highlight God's promises, brings hope and encouragement to my weary spirit.
Journaling: Writing down thoughts and prayers helps me process emotions and reinforces my trust in God during difficult moments.
Nature Walks: Stepping outside to enjoy God’s creation cultivates calm. The natural world serves as a reminder of beauty and tranquility, helping to ease worries.
Keeping the Faith in the Everyday
Even mundane tasks can become moments of faith and connection. As I tackle laundry piles, help with homework, or prepare meals, I consciously choose to offer these moments to God. By embedding faith into daily activities, I continuously connect with Him.
Every action can be seen as an opportunity for worship. Whether serving a meal, doing the dishes, or engaging with family, these moments hold the potential for honoring God. This mindset has undeniably made my exhaustion feel lighter and less burdensome.
The Path Leading from Exhaustion to Renewal
Every one of us faces exhaustion, but by leaning into faith, we can find renewal. No matter how overwhelming life becomes, I’ve discovered that letting God’s promises guide us allows for genuine rest and rejuvenation.
Turning to the Lord amid trials and daily demands has changed how I view exhaustion. It’s no longer a foe; it’s a call to deepen my reliance on God.

Final Thoughts
In a world filled with distractions and temporary fixes, finding true rest might seem difficult. However, embracing faith and developing a relationship with God provides a source of renewal. By actively inviting God into every aspect of life, I’ve realized that exhaustion does not have to dictate my reality.
As we navigate life’s demands, let's choose to seek rest in God. By cherishing each task as a chance to honor Him, we open ourselves up to refreshment and renewal. I invite you to take a moment today to pause, reflect, and welcome the promise of God’s rest into your life, regardless of how chaotic or ordinary it may appear. Remember, He is with you, nurturing and supporting your spirit through it all.
As I wrap this up, I wanted to share a song that I have turned to in times when I need a reminder. The song “Rest” by Leanna Crawford has been such a light to me through times of trouble. Here is the YouTube link to the song! I hope you find peace in this gentle reminder as I do!
