Seeing the Lord in the Foggy Times

Lately, I’ve felt like I’m walking through a thick fog. It's the kind that settles in your soul. Life feels heavy. My thoughts feel jumbled. Some days I can’t even put words to what I’m feeling — only that I’m tired, overwhelmed, and unsure of what’s next.
I used to think I had to wait until the fog lifted to see God clearly again. But I’m learning something new in this season: God is still here, even when I can’t see past the next step.
Just a couple days ago, on the 26th, I celebrated my 31st birthday. In honor of turning 31, a friend and I read Psalm 31 together — and it felt so endearing, almost like a little wink from God. The words of that Psalm captured so much of what this season feels like: the cries for refuge, the honesty of struggle, but also the deep assurance that God is our rock and fortress.
“Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me” (Psalm 31:3).
That’s exactly what I’ve been praying in the fog — Lord, just guide me one step at a time.
Another verse that struck me was Psalm 31:7: “I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.” Even when I feel unseen or unsure, God sees me. He knows the weariness of my heart, and He cares.
In the fog, I’ve found myself clinging more tightly to Him, even if my prayers are simple and messy: “Lord, help me. Lord, be near. Lord, guide me.” And somehow, that’s enough.
Maybe you’re in a foggy place too. Maybe life feels confusing, heavy, or uncertain. If so, I want to remind you — you don’t have to have clarity to be close to God. He meets us in the fog. He walks with us when we can’t see the way forward. And He holds us steady when we feel lost.
The fog may not be gone yet, but His Word gives me strength to keep hoping, keep moving, and keep trusting.
And maybe that’s the reminder we all need in foggy seasons — we don’t have to see the whole road ahead. We just need to hold on to Him and take the next small step.
As Psalm 31:24 says: “Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.”
Take heart mamas and sisters in Christ.
Even here, even now, even in the fog — hope is still alive because He is still with us.
